Mercy 02:55
And what was true is now undone I am overblown by what’s beneath the sun You’re the one I’m looking for Don’t punish don’t harm Please don’t put anything up your arm Leave the bottle on the shelf Show some mercy to yourself Some mercy to yourself Some mercy The web we are caught in is so finely spun I am overwhelmed, out flanked and overrun You’re the one I’m looking for Don’t rubbish don’t choke Let this freedom be your masterstroke Put some flowers on the shelf Show some mercy to yourself Some mercy to yourself Some mercy

Well I’ve been talking to no one No one at all Talking to no one Big small short or tall Happy to hide happy to glide Happy to stay so safe inside Well I’ve been talking to no one No one at all Sometimes you get like this Where you don’t want a hug you don’t want a kiss Sometimes you get like this For no apparent reason at all Well I been talking to no one I had to get away And hide in the house For a few long short days Turn off the phone pull down the blinds Keep to myself and the trouble in mind Well I’ve been talking to no one No one at all Sometimes you get like this Where you don’t give a rats you don’t give a fig Sometimes you get like this For no apparent reason at all The next morning you wake And you’re feeling so great That you just cannot wait To jump over the gate And talk to the entire world

Trying not to burn bread in the toaster Trying to be the guy stuck on the poster Trying to ride this roller coaster with you Knowing that I don’t know left from right But knowing that I think you’re out of sight Knowing that I wanna stick to you like super glue I wanna be here for you I wanna grow weird with you I wanna adhere to you and not get torn apart Maybe buy a string of pearls to adorn ya Maybe be the best performer for ya Someday I could turn the corner for you I’m guessing that your patience is wearing thin I shouldn’t jump the good ship sailing in Knowing that I wanna stick to you like super glue I wanna be here for you I wanna drink beer with you I wanna adhere to you and not get torn apart I wanna be here for you I wanna grow weird with you I wanna adhere to you and not get torn apart
4.
I’m arranging every chess piece just so Doing all the jigsaw puzzles that I know I’m re-reading Robinson Crusoe I’m making the most of my time I’ve got a bed full of roses To melt my heart I got the sun coming up I’m as happy as a lark I’m doing more than fine Don’t need no Valentine Got skies to admire that can’t be denied I got a mirror in which I can confide I doubt I’ve got bigger fish to fry I’m making the most of my time I’ve got a bed full of roses To melt my heart I got the sun coming up I’m as happy as a lark I’m doing more than fine Don’t need no Valentine No Valentine – They do you no good Not like they should They do you no good No Valentine I’m doing more than fine I don’t need no Valentine

Idiot Song 03:10
I was a knob I was a fool I was a clown I was a tool I was an idiot on the town I was an idiot coming down I was an idiot in love I wore an idiot’s white glove And if there was anything to do that an idiot could This idiot would I was a drongo a flaming galah I was a dropkick in every front bar I was an idiot outdoors I was an idiot on the dance floor I was an idiot so deranged I was an idiot nothing’s changed And if there was anything to do that an idiot could This idiot would I am an idiot aren't I? An idiot aren't I? An idiot I am

We’re pulling out the heaters and dusting them off Gearing up for the sore throats and the coughs Getting out the beanies from the Winter box So much for Summer We’re bracing ourselves for the electricity bills Got a little bit of Autumn before these chills Make their way down from the wintery hills So much for Summer Summer came and played on a Wednesday last year Hung out in the beer garden drinking a beer Ate a bag of chips then disappeared So much for Summer around here We're collecting kindling like a bower bird Swapping salad rolls for casseroles to be stirred Flying to Broome and Bali or haven’t you heard? So much for Summer Summer came and played on a Wednesday last year Hung out in the beer garden drinking a beer Ate a bag of chips then disappeared So much for Summer around here

My Mum just turned 88 She’s looks good she’s sounding great She tells me what she’s been telling me every year of late I share my birthday with Hitler Her daughter took her to the Alma Hotel Mum had Roast of the Day with Vegetables Some Prosecco and some Pavlova as well Good work Mum Her granddaughter took her to Lucky Lapitas A Mexican restaurant where Mum had her first Margarita She said I left feeling there like I was a lucky little Senorita Nice one Nana My Mother just turned 88 She peers out from behind her curtains she locks the gate She says You’re hard pressed to tell heaven from hell over here in Adelaide How right you are, happy birthday Ma

In the dark Before the early bird and the worm Before the world begins to turn And court you and spark In the heart In the places where your darkness hides Where the shadows of the past reside And take you to task Through the morning Lighting up the floor dancing on the wall for you Through the window Lighting up your smile opening the door for you There so much that belongs to you By letting in a little light So much more between me and you By letting in a little light Letting In A Little Light In the night When the stars are hidden from your view And there is no one you can turn to Not now not tonight Through the morning Lighting up the floor dancing on the wall for you Through the window Lighting up your smile opening the door for you There so much that belongs to you By letting in a little light So much more between me and you By letting in a little light Letting In A Little Light

The blue moon that my baby saw Shine a light on me Though I never needed it before Now I see those clouds that years ago Didn’t bother me Now hang heavy Take away battle lines drawn Take away a heartful of scorn And keep yourself warm for me The blue dress that my baby wore Looked as pretty as can be It’s lying on the floor helplessly Those clowns that years ago Made no impression on me Now joke endlessly Take away battle lines drawn Take away a heartful of scorn And keep yourself warm for me
10.
I’ve become a big believer in fake news So much social media that I’ve got the blues It’s time to re-group No time for mock turtle soup Crying crocodile tears Over Han van Meegeren's fake Vermeers Oh are they real? No no they’re not real, they’re not really real at all Some are born to win and some to lose I’ve got my fake grin my fake tan and fake shoes No sign of the truth Fake gold in my tooth Crying crocodile tears Over Han van Meegeren's fake Vermeers Oh are they real? No no they’re not real, they’re not really real at all

Go West 02:15
Go west to where the air is fresh Follow the setting sun Where everyone could not care less That you're on the run Ride forth and give us all a rest From the deeds that you have done Go west right now at our behest Follow the setting sun Farewell the east where blood was shed Go out west my son Go to see what good there is And what good can be done Go to see what good there is And what good can be done

about

Acclaimed songsmith Charles Jenkins and his multi-talented musical compadre Douglas Lee Robertson return with new album, 'Radio Sketches The Third'.

Following in the hallowed footsteps of Radio Sketches (2021) and Radio Sketches 2 – The Death of Stars (2022), it is - unsurprisingly – the third in a hugely successful series for the popular power-pop-folk-variety sketch artists, where a new song is conceived, demoed, recorded and broadcast every week.

All these songs are originally served up for a Sunday radio show and sent out to the world from Melbourne, Australia. Each week on the Monday an email arrives with the subject heading containing that week’s theme: Mercy, the desire to remain single, the end of summer, birthday, real, fake, idiots, west, talking to no one and more. With the idea provided, and with the deadline looming, the song is sketched out by Charles and sent to Douglas Lee to add the real brilliance – all the instruments and backing vocals, then mixed and sent to the radio station in time for Sunday’s show.

So here we have it, Radio Sketches The Third, again a collection of raw, exuberant, songs that have been captured in a bottle in the heat of the moment, as vital and heartfelt as anything the master songsmith Charles Jenkins has done before.

Charles Jenkins is an acclaimed Melbourne songwriter, musician and producer with more than 30 years in the Australian Music Industry. A well-loved performer, he has toured extensively around the globe and been nominated for two ARIA awards with Douglas Lee Robertson and the Icecream Hands. In 2014 he won the AGE/Music Victoria award for best folk/roots album and Radio Sketches The Third will become his 22nd studio album.
